Why Food Photography?
Have you ever heard the expression: “eating with your eyes?”
This is definitely something we keep in mind with food photography.
The food that I photograph must be a feast for your eyes.
Just by looking at the image you should feel like your other senses are also ignited.
You should want to taste and smell the food in the image.
Good images of your food will really enhance your brand awareness.
You can also have a look at these Food Photography Photo Sessions we have done.
Pease consider following us on Facebook or Instagram.

Food Photographers possess the skill to create beautiful images of food with ideal lighting, styling and a few other tricks.
Restaurants, Cook Book Publishers, Food Suppliers for Advertorial Purposes and even some E-commerce Sites will require Food Photography Images on a regular basis.
This is where I come in. Picksees Photography can help you create unique and beautiful food imagery for your restaurant menus, cookbooks, social pages etc.

I have been a full-time studio photographer for ±18 years now and operating in the Pretoria East area.
I work from my home based studio which is a quiet, comfortable and a private space with a kitchen on hand.
I also travel if you need me to photograph your culinary images at your restaurant space or test kitchen.
I use a variety of Canon Camera Bodies and Lenses as well as Godox Lighting Equipment.
Back-up equipment are always on standby if needed.

During my 18 years of being a professional photographer, I have refined my process as follows:
You can contact me here to discuss how I can help you with your requirements.

Please provide me with the following information in order for me to provide you with a customised quotation:

I will then proceed to create a preliminary quote for you. If you are interested in hiring me we can proceed to have an on site meeting.
Once all the details have been discussed and agreed upon, I will provide you with a final quote.
Food Photography can’t be rushed. Food needs to be prepared and a shooting set-up created.
Styling and creating the perfect images takes time.

After our photo session is completed, I will do some post-production work on the images.
During this process colour will be corrected and little imperfections will be removed.

I will provide you with an online gallery of your images.
This will provide you with the opportunity to approve your images first.
If you are satisfied, you can download the final images via my secure online platform.

You are welcome to discuss any styling or creative ideas with me.
I would love to incorporate your ideas into the final product if it is within my means.
I will normally have a look at your brand before hand to make sure that I get the feel for your product and portray it correctly.
I am also open to discussions on exactly what it is that you want from the final product.

Photography makes my heart beat a little faster and I especially love working with children. Loads of patience, understanding and kindness is needed to work with babies and children and I do believe that I possess these qualities.

We have a small and intimate studio. Our studio can accommodate 5 people at the most. If you would like to include more people, please book a lifestyle/location session.

What to wear:-
Avoid clothes with bright patterns. Rather go for solid colours.
Blue jeans with plain tops work best.
Ladies should avoid baby doll dresses and shirts as these can easily add a few kg’s.
Wear clothes that you are comfortable in. If you feel self-conscious you will not photograph well.
In case of group photos, plan ahead and try to select a colour scheme that does not clash.
Take into account that babies and toddlers do not enjoy getting dressed and undressed. Try to keep outfit changes to a minimum.
Also keep in mind that you book an appointment for a specific amount of time eg. 1 hour or 30 minutes. If you have too many outfit changes, you will be eating into valuable shooting time.

If you are late, this time will be deducted from the shooting time.
Make-up and hairstyling:–
The studio does not have an in-house make-up artist or hairstylist. Please arrange for your hair and make-up to be done before hand if you feel that you require a more stylish or polished looked.
It is however not necessary to have your hair and make-up done by a professional for your family photos. It is a personal choice and if you are comfortable doing your own, please do so. Especially if you would like to appear more natural.

Babies and Toddles:-
Please bring your child’s favourite toys with. This will calm them down and I can use it to personalise the photos.
Make sure your child is well rested and fed before the shoot. Try and book your photo session with your child’s napping time in mind. In the event that your child is feeling under the weather, please reschedule. Sick children will not feel up for a photo shoot, leaving you disappointed with the end product.
Do not schedule a photo shoot for your baby or toddler within three days after an inoculation. Inoculations can make your baby feel miserable.
Keep in mind, that if your baby/toddler is not used to strangers or leaving the house, your photo session might not be the wonderful experience you envisioned.
Babies/toddlers that stay at home with a single caretaker and never leave the house, find the photography experience challenging and frightening. Keep your child’s personality and character in mind when booking your photo session.

Why is it important for you to have professional headshots/business portraits taken?
We live in an ever changing society where the image you portray is rather important.
Do you look well put together, neat and tidy?
Do you inspire confidence?

A large portion of job applications is done online and your headshot will be the first opinion prospective employers or customers will form about you.
Applications like LinkedIn can put you in touch with possible career prospects.
People will most likely have a look at the image/s you have loaded of yourself online or attached to your CV or job application.
Is this the best possible image of you? Does this image represent the brand you would like to market?

Furthermore, large companies with an online presence might want to add your headshot to their company website/profile. Maybe even include your image in their next newsletter.
Do not miss out on future career prospects just because your corporate image does not speak to the correct market.
How do you go about obtaining the correct headshot/corporate image?
Here are some suggestions
Take the industry that you work in, into account. If you are an accountant, look the part. If you are a chef, dress like one.

Most headshots will have a white or grey background.
Depending on the industry you work in, this can differ.
A bokeh office or boardroom backdrop can work in certain circumstances.

Avoid wearing colours with bright patterns.
Rather go for solid, corporate world colours like a navy blue or black.

Consider wearing a blazer/jacket as this gives good definition to your shoulders.
Do not wear loose fitting clothes that can create the idea that you are bigger than you are. Also try and stay away from loose hanging jerseys.
A crisp, white shirt will usually be a safe option.
If you are unsure, rather take and extra outfit or another option with you.

In case of group photos, plan ahead and try to select a colour scheme that does not clash.

I would suggest that if you are not someone that regularly wears make-up , you contact a professional make-up artist to assist you herein.
Pay special attention to your hair in your image. It must fit in with the corporate look you are trying to create.
It is usually a good idea to schedule your photo session close to your next hair appointment. Freshly coloured, cut and styled hair will give the effect of a well put together person.
Certain poses work better with business portraits. I will advise you, during the photo session on these.
